Why are we only talking about broadband? We should be focusing more attention on mobile
Mobile is where the most innovation is taking place. It is much more cost efficient than broadband alone. I agree everyone should have access to high speed bandwidth, but more than ever this should be focused on the mobile platform.
In order to help bridge the digital divide we need to be looking at how to provide better more reliable and cost efficient mobile service to people. The cost of a mobile device is much less than a laptop. It is portable and serivce is cheaper than trying to pay for a land line, cable TV and broadband.
By only focusing on broadband we are limiting our vision and ability to serve all citizens.
Broadband should be mobile, it should be 4G not 3G. And we should not
be supporting Monopolies to get it. Phone Traffic should be free. All we need to do is get the FCC to get roof top routers permission to exists. Hardware will be built and the last mile will not cost anything. this will promote competition and we will have many ISP from witch to pick to get on the Internet.

Why should I pay for everyone to have high speed bandwith. I have dialup and live with it. This is just another bad excuse to raise our taxes to make another government job. Every library I know has high speed. This is NOT a RIGHT!
Mobile is only as good as the closest land line (hopefully fiber) connection!
Don't let them fool you. Land line and mobile carriers are all the same. They all impose hidden costs and establish fictitious prices if you do anything beyond their "basic" service whether it be land line or mobile.
