CLOSED: Engagement: In what ways can social networks further FCC engagement with the public?

The reboot.fcc.gov project has ended. All related public feedback forums have been closed.*

  1. FCC should model "best behaviors" for emerging media efforts.

It is desirable to have a diverse environment of content providers. The FCC should highlight best practices of media entrepreneurship, from how to start a blog to how to launch a cable channel, and everything in between.

For example, PEG is available nationally, yet when you Google the topic there are virtually no articles on how to use this community resource. By illustrating how PEG Access works, the FCC democratizes access to all media distribution.

  2. Public Comments to Proposed Regulation Changes

The current public comment process is often too confusing and cumbersome for much of the public. Social networks offer a mechanism for process that is open to a larger public, beyond those who have the time and resources to respond.

  3. Announce Proposed Regulation Changes for Comment

Any regulation changes requiring a public comment period, should be published on the social networks, with the appropriate link for submitting comments.

  4. Each Bureau and Office needs A Separate Twitter Account

Much like the VA, each Bureau and Office needs their own Twitter account and Facebook page. This allows the public to follow, and be involved in, areas of particular interest to them.

  5. DTV, not such a great idea.

I'm not sure who decided to get rid of analog TV and go to this crappy excuse for TV that we have now. Clearly they do not live in an area that has bad weather. We try to watch the weather to protect ourselves and property from storms but DTV can not be watched during a storm because it ALWAYS cuts out. How exactly does our wonderful government expect citizens to be aware of where a storm is traveling when you can't see the TV? Real genius idea........

  7. Using a similar system, let the public vote on potential changes and issues

This seems like the perfect system to allow the public to vote up or down ideas proposed. For example, if you look at the current proceeding 97-80, which is dealing with changes to the cable industry which directly affects the public, the public for the most part is unaware this is even going on. There should be an easy to navigate page which allows direct consumer and public feedback both for voting on submitted ideas while also allowing the ability to submit their own. As it stands now without any feedback, it feels like there isn't any incentive for the…

Why are public broadcasting stations exempt from keeping a correspondence folder within their public files?

  11. All commissioners and Julius get on Twitter. Tell us who you're meeting with, why, outcomes, etc..

By letting the public know who you are meeting with and when you have open meetings, we'll feel better that you are accountable to all sides of the issues and considering everything. If you only meet with the large businesses and not the small businesses and consumers, we'll see you're not accountable to everyone. We want to trust you're making decisions based on a lot of information. Be accountable to us and show that we can trust you because you consider all sides of a subject.

  13. It should just simply be illegal to use the telephone, internet or mobile communication for fraud.

Why isn't it illegal for someone to use the telephone for fraud? You hear about these scammers all the time who are trying to bilk someone out of money, whether it's through the internet, the phone or a mobile device. Doing this should be illegal, plain and simple. Having access to communication is a priviledge, not a right for scum who would take advantage of another human being.

  14. Use an iAd to get your message out. They're hot and will reach a lot of people if it's engaging.

I'm not trying to say use Apple, or anybody else. Just that iAd is THE hot thing right now. If you want to get your message out about net-neutrality or the broadband initiative, this would be a way to do so. Very quickly and very publicly. Seriously, put it out on the iphone or ipad and the press will write, the users will look. You know what is somewhat disturbing? The fact that whenever I try and engage any of my tech friends about net-neutrality, they just seem to glaze over. They either don't know about it or don't care.…

  15. Put a fractal script warning label on all broadcasts that use fractal generator as the source.

To prevent the automatic fractal association of words instead of the real meaning, a fractal warning should be issued on any media product that used fractal generators as the sources. The purpose is to prevent violent associations with the fractal meaning of the word which could be magnified by a drug or stress induced moment. As of now, people show signs of fractal association without the use of drugs or stress, and any drug or stress induced moment could magnify the fractal associations.

  17. Establish a page for web neutrality issues.

Not that the issue is getting some press, you'll be seeing a lot of traffic.

  19. The FCC is not well known. Let the public see what happens at FCC via these social networks!

Be priod of what you do...show everybody the people, projects, and work the FCC does. It'll improve the agency's image, let folks see the 'real' side of the agency, and give the public a better idea of how to interact with the Commission.
