CLOSED: Redesign: What functionality would you like to see on the FCC.gov redesign?

The reboot.fcc.gov project has ended. All related public feedback forums have been closed.*

  1. Add email notification to the list of official means for notices of upcoming license renewal

Use of an email notification as an early means of official notice for online renewal for license(s) associated with FRN. This would allow the FCC to only mail hard copy of renewals to the physical address of those that did not respond to the email for renewal. My though is that this should eventually be a savings to the government by reduction in materials and labor costs required to generate the notices and the future increasing internal costs of delivery versus the upfront and maintenance cost of programming the software.

  2. Maximize your roll out ...

You want to roll out broadband for everyone - even rural areas but are concerned about educating new users? Create jobs! There are thousands of us fluent with internet use in daily life. We'd be happy to help others get comfortable with this new technology.

  3. A quick and easy place to complain about sudden high volumes in TV xmit and radio interference.

My wireless headphones loudly get signals from cellular phones. My digital TV volume is blasted when a commercial comes on. I need a place to at least complain about it. You don't have to move on every complaint but when you get 100 complaints, for goodness sake, do something about it.

  4. Dump GRMS license fee since FRS only radios are not available anymore.

Why should we have to pay $85 for a license to use an FRS radio when all you can buy today is an FRS/GMRS radio that nobody is getting a license for anyway?

  5. All FCC documents, RM. FCC, DA etc have a full text google type search function with date limits

Presently, it is very difficult to be sure to find relevant documents in the EDOCS and ECFS unless you know the docket, RM, FCC, DA or other number. There should be a full text search of all FCC documents on the FCC.gov site. The search should be able to be limited to ranges of dates for issue, comment, reply comment (the latter two having a default of "open today". This would assure the ability to find all relative documents on a subject. Currently a search is hit and miss, and you need to be sure you have found all the…

  6. More Enforcement with existing rules on cb freebanders with illegal equipment, pwr., & spectrum use

I'd like to see more focus on these illegal operations around 27 MHz and other freqs. which cause harm to those trying to operate legally in around the amateur and marine portions. They think the FCC-EB doesn't care anymore to "justify" their illegal activity & actions.

  7. Post the actual comment due date when it becomes available

NPRMs and similar documents requesting comments usually give due date relative to Federal Register publication date - obviously not known immediately. But when it is known there is now no way to find the date on the FCC site, one must search in the FR and then do your own math.

Here is a page OET used to maintain showing dockets, a short description that is understandable, and the actual due date.

    http://www.fcc.gov/oet/info/docket_comments/

Something similar should be done on a commission-wide basis. This will facilitate participation by those without K Street lawyers.

  8. Quarterly Updates for NCE FM MX'd Groups - Start date for Section IV No.1- Estab. Local Applicants?

Applicants in all MX'd Groups would benefit from brief quarterly updates showing the progression of the point system i.e. how many groups still need to be assessed in Section III, and the approximate date when Section IV (No. 1) evaluation will begin.

  9. Allow Internet Radio for businesses to be licensed

Internet radio is a quickly emerging technology. We have a chain of Burger King restuarants and we currently use XM Radio or the dining room ambient music. Of course these days we are looking to do what we can to reduce our operating costs so we were looking to switch to Internet Radio. We understand that public listening for music in our restuarants needs to be in some sort of paid subscription service and was looking to switch to Sirius Internet Radio. Unfortunatly, they stated that businesses are not allow to currently use Internet Radio because of FCC licensing. Internet…

  10. A quick and clear way to find the status of every petition now before the Commission

Any name or topic search leads to numerous hits on the FCC database. This makes it extremely difficult to track private initiatives.

An area dedicated to each and every submitted petition, where it is in the system, and exactly what it contains, would make it simple for any member of the public to follow any matter of interest. To be really effective the search function could be at least linked to key words, petition numbers, date of submission, the submitter, and any rules affected.

  13. blog for public to suggest regulatory changes: like cell servic cap expansion to work in emergencies

Need a blog for public input of regualtory changes to allow suggestions like changing the rules to make cell phone sevice providers design in sufficient prioritized voice capacity to handle emergency traffic during disasters - it just seems like saving lives in an emergency is a much better use of the spectrum than streaming Television / video / and other high bandwidth services in times of disaster. On talking to an executive recently of a major cell phone service provider it is clear it won't happen without regulatory requirements. Just make this a national priority and it can be designed…

  14. First step towards new democracy

Hello everybody, I am a european citizen and I believe that reboot.fcc could be the biggest improvement on democracy history if it offers some kind of "Citizen Control Start-Up Panel" where each registered user could get informed and vote about every decission according to its personal and professional profile. It could start as a realtime consulting system... think about it!

  16. Ability to link directly to certain databases

At present you can create a URL that links directly to all ECFS filings on a given docket, e.g. http://fjallfoss.fcc.gov/ecfs/proceeding/view?name=09-157

Some of us would like to make a "spectrum wiki" for public access to all sorts o spectrum data for each band. It would very useful to have comparable URLs for direct access to all radio and all equipment authorizations licenses for a specific band.

  17. An Internet hosted real time wideband spectrum scope from FCC offices in various large cities

An Internet hosted real time wideband spectrum scope from FCC offices in various large cities similar to a weather radar map that can be clicked on and zoomed in on by Internet users.
This will show the average person on which frequencies RF energy is being transmitted on in that area.
The scope picture can have delineations on it that show the boundaries of the different allocations and if zoomed in enough pop up the licensee information out of the FCC database when a particular frequency is highlighted. There is no need to demodulate the content of the transmission but…

  18. Launch sites similar to the 700 MHz wireless mic site for Signal Boosters & Part 90 Narrowbanding

such sites could be very useful for educating consumers about the proper use of signal boosters as well as private two way radio licensees about the FCC's 2013 Part 90 VHF/UHF narrowbanding mandate

  19. Stop! regulating my television.

We live in The United States of America. This means every single citizen of this *free country, has a say. But, there is no say when the government regulates a majority of things we do; how much soda we drink, what we can or cannot watch, etc.

It is very simple, the people who own a television should choose what they want to watch rather than being told they cannot watch something due to someone else not agreeing with it. Or that they have to wait till 10:00 PM to watch a show that says a word or words that…
